Are You Curious About Our Learning Experience?

By Aniyah Kalies Granger

This year, the class of 2020 had the opportunity, to visit Madame Tussauds in New York City, on October 27th not only to have fun but the chance to learn and discover new things about the people who made a huge impact on society today. The experience was fascinating.

On our way there, we had D.J Jamira play us some tunes. Since we requested the music, we were jamming and having fun, and of course snapchatting. We arrived at the museum, around 9:45, but before we entered, we took a group selfie, which was beautiful.

At one point in their lives, they faced many challenges, and they had many obstacles in their way, but they overcame it. It also made us realize if they can do it so can we if we just try and set high goals for ourselves. Not all of these people had the same opportunities that we have now.

At the Marvel exhibit in the museum, we experienced a 3D movie. During the movie, it felt like we were on an actual ride,  we felt water coming from the screen and the movement of the chairs. It felt like we were in the movie. The movie was about Superheroes Thor, Hulk, Spiderman, and Ironman trying to defeat the villain, Doctor Doom, and his men. Spoiler Alert: the protagonists defeated Doctor Doom and his men.

After the whole attraction, some of the students took pictures at each section of the museum, where they went to the gift shop to retrieve the pictures they took. At 11:30, we went downstairs to leave.

When we arrived at Applebees, we were so ecstatic, because we had a private room. The booths and tables were set up really nicely, so we could all sit and chat and take pictures next to our friends. The food came very fast, it was also very delicious with excellent customer service.

In the museum we saw many people who inspire us  and who we  look up to, such as Maya Angelou, Whoopi Goldberg wearing her Sister Act outfit, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Selena Quintanilla, Muhammad Ali, 2pac Shakur, Jimmy Fallon, Barack and Michelle Obama, Dr.Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Alicia Keys and many more.

Looking at these people made us realize they all have something in common, people who never gave up to achieve their dreams.

On the trip, we had an amazing time. But at the end of the day, it wasn’t just about hanging with our friends or taking pictures with wax figures, buying stuff just to say “we went”  and going out to eat. It was about learning new things, such as viewing the people who made things possible for us, and made a huge impact on our lives, and mostly society today, and thinking about their success on how they made it that far and hopefully farther.
