the Vampire Diaries; love it or hate it.

The hit 2009 drama The Vampire Diaries is to die for!!! This teen drama was not only a hit in the early 2000s but still is in 2021. It is about a girl, Elena Gilbert, who lives in the small town of Mystic Falls and is exposed to the supernatural, such as vampires, witches, and werewolves. Elena is in a love triangle with the century-old vampires the Salvatore brothers. Elena is unaware that she is a supernatural being from the Petrova bloodline. The show takes you into the history of the town and of the supernatural beings that live there. 

Fans of The Vampire Diaries have said; “I love it and would recommend it 1000 times.” 

This show is mainly for teenage girls, but many adults also love this show. It is streaming on Netflix and on cable television. People who watch this show have fallen in love with it. I rate this  a 10 out of 10, and highly recommend this binge-worthy show.

Greyhound: A War on the Seas

The movie GreyHound is loosely based on the novel The Good Shepherd by C.S Forester starring Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Shue, Stephen Graham, Chet Hanks, Tom Britteny, Karl Glusman, Rob Morgan, Lee Norris, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, and Devin Drude. This film directed by Aaron Schneider takes another look at war on the high seas. There are some similarities to USS Indianapolis Men of Courage, In Enemy Hands, and others from the 1900s. For now, the movie Greyhound can be seen in theaters and on Apple Tv+.

 

GreyHound starts in early 1942  during WW2 and it is about a captain named Ernest Krausau who is in command of a destroyer the USS Kelling, its call sign is GreyHound. Their job was to lead 32 Allied ships across the Atlantic Ocean while trying to evade and fight German U boats and safely reach their destination. The best scene was the part when Captain Ernest Krausau’s crew were trying to use their sonar to detect a German U boat that disappeared from their radar. Onboard, one crew member realized why it mysteriously went off their sonar.

 

This movie showed us using today's technology what it was like during WW2 to fight against German U Boats. I would say if you're looking for a WW2 movie on the seas this is for you. Critics have said that Tom Hanks and his acting have lifted this movie up and like me, they would have liked this film to have looked deeper into the story and characters. However, if you looking for a long story then sorry you will have to look elsewhere. People don’t often say this, but I wish the movie was longer to include more of the story and character development. 

Why The Harry Potter Series are The Best Movies You Can Watch

On November 14, 2001, the first movie adaptation of the thrilling book known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by Jk Rowling was released. These films were directed by David Yates, Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, and Mike Newell. All seven of the Harry Potter novels were so popular around the world that they led to the making of 8 films in total. The series takes place in Britain. Harry Potter (played by Daniel Radcliffe) thought he was an ordinary orphaned boy living with his muggle (non-magical) aunt and her family until on his 11th birthday he finds out he is a wizard. He learns that his aunt and uncle have been lying to him his whole life. He discovers that his parents didn’t die in a car crash. His parents were killed protecting Harry from a dark and feared wizard named Lord Voldemort also known as You-Know-Who, or He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. He tried to kill Harry because of the prophecy he read about him. Voldemort disappeared that night and his whereabouts are unknown. After learning the truth Harry attends Hogwarts the School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, where he meets his friends and the story begins. Will Lord Voldemort return? Will Harry survive? 

In the movie, we see the tough decisions the characters make in order to save the world from the return of Voldemort. One of the best scenes in the movie is when we find out that none other than the cunning and witty Severus Snape (played by Alan Rickman), who we thought betrayed Dumbledore was actually working with him secretly and also even ends up sacrificing his own life in the end. More importantly, we learn more about his past, that he was actually a good guy all along and he gets the redemption he deserved.

 One critic stated, “Harry Potter's first venture onto the screen is a solid blockbuster” (Jami Bernard, New York Dailey News). To conclude, the movie series can be streamed on Amazon Prime, Itunes, and Youtube. 

If you haven’t watched the Harry Potter movies by now then I highly recommend watching them. If you like the fantasy genre then you should definitely watch it.  However, I think everyone who saw it can all agree that it is much more than just a fantasy movie. It tells a story, which is important when it comes to films.  Not to mention the characters can be relatable to anyone. To summarize, we learn many lessons watching Harry and his friends grow up and start their adventure.
